Olympus Tough TG5 +Olympus TG 5 60m/195ft Sea Frogs Underwater Camera Housing
The definitive high-image-quality Tough camera. Relive your adventures with the TG-5.
Whether it be in the mountains, on the beach, or in the snow, the Tough series can withstand the most punishing environments. The TG-5 is the pinnacle of the Tough series, and its new image sensor and new TruePic VIII image processor deliver significant improvements to image quality. It is equipped with a Field Sensor System which records various field data so you can recreate the shooting experience on your smartphone. Take this camera with you to make outdoor activities, such as mountain climbing and diving, even more fun.
FEATURES
Further advanced image quality and Tough performance
The TG-5 is equipped with the latest image sensor and image processor, and a bright f/2.0 high-resolution lens for high image quality. Its Tough performance and anti-fog dual-pane protective glass make for worry-free use in the harshest environments.
High-resolution f/2.0 lens
The TG-5 features both Tough performance and high image quality, along with a high-resolution, 4x optical zoom lens. The bright f/2.0 lens makes it possible to use a fast shutter speed to reduce subject blur even when capturing moving subjects in dark locations.
- Conventional camera
f/ value: 3.9, shutter speed: 1/30 sec. (The dark lens prevents use of a faster shutter speed) - Camera with a bright f/2.0 lens
f/ value: 2.0, shutter speed: 1/125 sec. (The bright lens allows use of a faster shutter speed)
Folded optics zoom lens
This model achieves the brightest aperture value, f/2.0, for a folded optics type lens. Lenses developed with advanced optical technology are lavishly used, including a DSA (Dual Super Aspherical) lens for high image quality.
- 4.5-18.0mm (35mm equivalent: 25 - 100mm), f/2.0 - f/4.9, 4x zoom
- DSA lens: Dual Super Aspherical lens
- HR/HD lens: High Refractive Index & Dispersion lens
- Aspherical lenses
Bright 4x zoom lens
The TG-5 is equipped with a 4x optical zoom lens. The lens provides a broad range of photography, from a wide-angle bird's-eye view of scenic landscapes to zoomed-in telephoto close-ups of distant subjects.
- Wide angle (35mm equivalent: 25mm)
- Telephoto (35mm equivalent: 100mm)
New image sensor and image processor
To maximise the capabilities of the high-resolution f/2.0 lens, a new high-speed back-illuminated CMOS image sensor and the TruePic VIII image processor used on the OM-D E-M1 Mark II are included on this model. Noise level has been reduced by 1 step for shooting in the standard ISO sensitivity range and also for shooting in darker areas. These improvements result in even higher image quality.
- Conventional camera
- TG-5
Image processing that delivers high resolution
The image processing algorithms have been retooled to deliver even higher resolution on the TG-5. They have been modified to provide high resolution for sections with a low difference in contrast particularly when using a low ISO sensitivity setting.
Improved high-sensitivity performance
Maximum ISO sensitivity is now ISO 12800.
RAW photography
The TG-5 allows shooting in RAW format. RAW images can be edited and processed on a computer using the digital workflow software Olympus Viewer 3. Adjust the contrast and sharpness after shooting to achieve the exact results you have in mind.
Tough performance[1]
In addition to being dustproof, waterproof up to 15m deep, shockproof up to a 2.1M drop, crushproof up to 100 kgf, and freezeproof down to -10℃, the TG-5 has anti-fog dual pane protective glass. Such Tough performance provides peace of mind when shooting in punishing environments such as the mountains, ocean, and snow.
Constructed to perform anywhere
This model features hermetic sealing, a floating lens construction, double-lock covers, and dual pane protective glass. It is such construction that makes the TG-5 waterproof, dustproof, shockproof, and anti-fog.
- Hermetic sealing
- Dual pane protective glass
15 m waterproof[1]
The camera is waterproof up to 15m below the water. Not only does this make it possible to shoot in heavy rain, but it also lets you shoot while snorkeling.
- Waterproof performance is JIS/IEC protection class 8 (IPX8) equivalent.
Dustproof[1]
This design features an airtight construction that shuts out sand and dust. Because you can rinse off the camera body with tap water, even if it gets dirty you can simply wash it off.
- Dust proof performance is JIS/IEC protection class 6 (IPX6) equivalent.
2.1 m shockproof[1]
Even with a large, bright f/2.0 lens, this model can still clear drop tests of up to 2.1m. Olympus know-how has been utilised in every facet, including the lens shape, lens positioning, and the lens drive method, resulting in a high level of shock-absorbing performance.
- The TG-5 is built with a shockproof construction resistant to 2.1 m (MIL-STD810F standard compliant).
100 kgf crushproof[1]
To protect all inner parts including the lens unit and circuit boards, an interior protective structure which can withstand a weight of 100kgf has been employed. With such crushproof construction, you won't have to worry about accidentally sitting on your camera when carrying it in your back pocket.
-10℃ freezeproof[1]
Operation at low temperatures is guaranteed down to -10℃. With this feature, you can feel confident taking it along on ski and snowboard trips and other winter sport outings.
Anti-fog[1]
The TG-5 introduces a new Tough feature, anti-fog. The dual-pane protective glass provides an airtight seal that protects the lens and minimises condensation on the lens that tends to occur during sudden changes in temperature.
- 1. All tests were performed under Olympus in-house test conditions, however Olympus does not guarantee against damage or malfunction in all situations.
